The overall health of a family is deeply rooted to the health of its women, and thereby contributes to the wellbeing of a community. Good health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity but a state of complete mental, physical, and
societal wellbeing. However, in most societies, the existence of gender inequality leaves women and girls as the most vunrelable section who suffers from poor health.

There are numerous factors which act to hinder the development of a girl to her full potential, and health is one of them. Education and good health are strongly associated, and are important predictors of wellbeing.

We believe that empowering adolescence girls and young women is an ongoing process that makes them feel emotionally strong, confident, and empowered to achieve anything they want. IDF has been actively involved in identifying and addressing the barriers to women empowerment, and their access to healthcare and rights. We strive to attain the United Nations Department of Economic and Social affairs; Sustainable Development Goals, especially, the goals of Gender Equality (Goal 5), and good health and well-being (Goal 3). Aiming for these goals would snowball into realizing the goals of Quality Education (Goal 4) and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10). The focus has not only been on providing help to women in need but also on creating self-sufficiency and empowerment through awareness building so that over time, young girls and women are equipped with enough knowledge and skills to make their own way in the society.

The Smile Days Program is an initiative which helps adolescent girls and young women to overcome the social barriers associated with menstruation and sensitize them towards knowing their body (Puberty stage), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) & Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR).

We follow a three-fold strategy

Education: Conducting workshops to educate adolescent girls & young women on biology and best hygiene practices, providing counseling sessions, and distributing informative booklets.

Health and Hygiene: Distributing sanitary products and building new toilet facilities along with access to clean water supply for schoolgirls.

Community Advocacy: Engaging family members, schools and specialists to increase outreach. Formation of SMILEY GIRLS CLUB in all partnered school.
